John Clingerman was a career diplomat, serving in Nepal opening the first US Embassy there from 1959-1961, the Republic of Congo (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo), Dahomey (now Benin), Belgium, and Zambia. He then served as the U.S. Ambassador to Lesotho from 1979-1981.
