Bound in brown leather with gilt decorative borders on both covers. All volumes have been rebacked, with front and rear hinges reinforced with archival brown cloth tape. Corners are bumped with some wear. Spine has gilt lettering and decorations. Spine ends are rounded. Marbled end papers. Text block has gilt edges. Text pages have offsets from prints.
Volume VIII rear contains 48 page Catalogue of Plants In The Collection Of Conrad Loddiges & Sons, Nurseymen At Hackney, Near London.
The is the first 9 volumes of a 20 volume set. All volumes have the index in the back of the book.
Volume I - 1818. Pencil notations on rear of free front end paper. 100 plates, numbered 1-100.
Volume II - 1818. 100 plates, numbered 101-200.
Volume III - 1818. Front hinge is cracked. 100 plates, numbered 201-300.
Volume IV - 1819. 100 plates, numbered 301-400.
Volume V - 1820. 100 plates, numbered 401-500.
Volume VI - 1821. 100 plates, numbered 501-600.
Volume VII - 1822. 100 plates, numbered 601-700. Front cover has 1" of the leather in the lower right showing insect damage. Bottom gilt edge shows mottling.
Volume VIII - 1823. 100 plates, numbered 601-700. Front cover shows two small 1/4" losses of the leather. Rear cover has two small holes of insect damage on lower left. Bottom gilt edge shows mottling.
Volume XIX - 1824. 100 plates, numbered 701-800. Front cover shows wear at edges of rebound leather cover. Excessive wear at corners, with rear lower corner and edge with a 1" piece of loose leather. Rear board shows two small holes through the leather with other areas of wear. Front hinge is cracked. Damp stain at the top of Plate 847 and the description page. Shelved in Room A Octavo Overflow.
