New York: Strong & Burdick, 1847, 1848, 1849. Quarto, three volumes. Good condition. Bound in red cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. Volumes 1 & II have been rebacked in red cloth, publisher's gilt cloth preserved.. Volume III has been rebound in red cloth. Text blocks are gilt on all edges. Ex-library copies with bookplates on the inside front covers with library notations on the spine and at various places in all three volumes. Plates are not colatted.
Volume 1 - iv, 137, iv pages. Second state, dated 1847. Original covers and spine placed on rebacking. Gilt lettering and design on the front and read covers. Corners are very worn and rounded, the front bottom corner has 1" of cloth separating from the cover. Spine has gilt lettering and Dewey Decimal notation at the bottom. Spine ends are dented and frayed. Previous book seller notation in pencil on free front end paper.
Volume II - iv, 192 pages. Original covers and spine placed on rebacking. Gilt lettering and design on the front and read covers. Corners are very worn and rounded, The front end papers all have old book seller notations on upper right or left corners.
Volume III - vi, 184, [4] pages. Boards have gilt edge design, with gilt lettering on the spine. Corner are lightly worn and slightly bumped. Upper two inches of the rear hinge is slightly cracked. Text block is cracked. Room A Octavo Overflow.
