YAURE WOODEN HUMAN AND ANTELOPE MASK, IVORY COAST

Ivory Coast. A carved wooden Yaure mask combines an idealized human face with a stylized antelope crest, a defining feature of the Yaure masquerade tradition of central Côte d'Ivoire. Worn during funerals, initiations, and communal celebrations, these masks honored ancestral spirits and affirmed social harmony and cultural values. The fusion of human and animal imagery embodies Yaure's ideals of beauty, wisdom, vitality, and spiritual protection. Dimensions approximately 21.5 × 9.5 × 8 inches In Very Good condition. Surface wear including accumulated residue, scattered abrasions and scratches throughout. Chipping is visible on the left eyelid, the tip of the left horn, and around the eyes of the antelope.
