SENUFO WOODEN HELMET MASK WITH BIRD-BEAK, IVORY COAST
Ivory Coast. A hand-carved wooden helmet mask is attributed to the Senufo people of Ivory Coast. The mask has an elongated face with slit eyes, a projecting triangular nose, a tubular mouth, and an elaborate bird-beak superstructure referencing the hornbill, an important symbolic bird in Senufo culture. Dimensions approximately 20 x 7 x 5.5 inches In Very Good condition, showing surface wear including soil deposits, abrasions, and scratches throughout. Noticeable rubbing appears at the nose, eyelids, mouth rim, side edges, and high points of the bird-beak structure.
