BOBO BWA CIRCULAR HAND PAINTED WOODEN MASK, BURKINA FASO

Burkina Faso. Circular wooden mask with a highly abstract facial composition. The face centers on concentric circular eyes, a projecting vertical ridge nose, and a tubular mouth aperture. The surface is decorated with repeated triangular motifs in black, white, and reddish-brown earth tones. The geometric patterning and circular format are typical of masks from Bwa ceremonial traditions in Burkina Faso, where abstract visual language conveys spiritual and cosmological symbolism. Dimensions approximately 19 x 18 inches In Very Good condition. The mask shows surface wear, including scattered abrasions, pigment loss, and paint erosion throughout. There is an approximately 12-inch crack on the left side of the face, a 3-inch crack along the upper right edge, and a 1.5-inch crack at the lower handle.
