TERRACOTTA KNEELING FEMALE FIGURE, WEST AFRICA
12th - 15th century. West African (Mali/Djenne/Bura) terracotta sculpture depicting a kneeling female figure with elongated neck, stylized facial features, and hands resting upon the thighs. Hand-modeled from fired clay with a warm earthen surface and visible age-related wear. The figure exhibits perforated eyes and mouth and possesses a strong sculptural presence characteristic of traditional African ceramic arts. Measures . Fired clay figure with scattered surface wear, abrasions, and losses consistent with age and handling. Old repaired break at the neck and repair/restoration to one wrist/hand area. Additional minor cracks, chips, and surface accretions present throughout.
