Nigeria. This cast brass head represents an Iyoba, or Queen Mother, in the Benin Kingdom style of Nigeria. It displays an idealized face with almond-shaped eyes, a broad nose, full lips, circular ears, a ringed neck, and a tall, textured headdress. These busts honor the Queen Mother’s significant role in royal lineage, spiritual protection, and the continuity of Benin kingship. Dimensions approximately 20 x 5.5 x 7 inches In Very Good condition, with surface wear such as oxidation, discoloration, rubbing, accumulated residue, and scattered abrasions. Minor casting irregularities are present, most notably at the right hairline and lower headdress.
