EIGHT LEGGED NUPE STOOL, NIGERIA
Nigeria: 20th century. Traditional Nupe carved wooden stool from Nigeria, hand-hewn from a single block of hardwood and supported by multiple tapered cylindrical legs. The circular seat is decorated with finely incised geometric motifs including diamonds, crosshatching, and concentric border designs characteristic of traditional Nupe decorative arts. Such stools served both practical and social functions within Nupe communities and are admired today for their sculptural forms and skilled craftsmanship. The stool displays a rich aged patina with visible wear from use, enhancing its authenticity and visual appeal. Dimensions: Approximately 15 in. x 17 in. x 11 in. In Good condition overall. Surface wear, abrasions, scratches, shrinkage cracks, and areas of finish loss consistent with long-term use. Carved decoration remains well defined and the stool is structurally stable with an attractive, naturally aged patina throughout.
