ZOOMORPHIC CARVED LOW STOOL, BURKINA FASO
Burkina Faso: 20th century. Carved from a single piece of hardwood, this striking stool is fashioned in the form of a ram with deeply carved spiral horns and a long rectangular seat decorated with intricate geometric motifs. The surface displays substantial age, wear, and patina consistent with prolonged use. Zoomorphic stools such as this served both practical and symbolic functions in West African societies, where carved seating often reflected status, lineage, and cultural identity. Dimensions: Approximately 11 in. x 58 in. x 9.5 in. Condition: Overall Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. The hardwood surface displays scattered abrasions, handling wear, shrinkage cracks, and areas of surface loss consistent with age and use. Carved details remain well defined, including the ram's head, horns, and geometric decoration. Minor chips and edge wear are present, particularly along projecting elements.
