STANDING ANCESTRAL FIGURE, WEST AFRICA

Carved wooden standing figure depicting a stylized male ancestor or spirit. The sculpture features a cylindrical headdress, elongated facial features with downcast eyes, prominent nose, and simplified geometric body. Standing with arms at the sides and feet planted firmly, the figure exhibits a restrained yet powerful presence characteristic of many West African ancestral carvings. Rich surface wear and remnants of a darkened patina suggest prolonged age and use. Mounted on a later wooden display stand. Exact tribal attribution remains uncertain, though the work is likely from the Côte d'Ivoire–Ghana cultural region. Dimensions: Measures ~24 in. x 8.5 in. x 5.5 in. Condition: Overall good antique condition. Extensive surface wear, abrasions, and losses to the original finish consistent with age and handling. Scattered age cracks throughout, most notably to the headdress and head. Minor chips and erosion to extremities and high points. Surface exhibits areas of accretion and worn patina. Mounted to a later custom wooden base.
