BAULE SEATED FEMALE FIGURE, IVORY COAST

A carved wooden seated female figure attributed to the Baule peoples of Côte d’Ivoire, with an elongated neck, refined oval face, almond-shaped eyes, high crested coiffure, and hands resting on the knees. The figure wears a carved necklace and leg ornaments, reflecting Baule ideals of beauty, status, and spiritual presence. Dimensions: Approximately 26.5 x 7.5 x 7 in. IN Good condition. Moderate surface wear throughout, with heavier deterioration on the reverse. Scattered abrasions, scratches, accretions, residue, pigment loss, and handling wear appear across the wood surface. Numerous holes, losses, and channels, especially on the back, lower support, and head, suggest old insect activity. A large portion of the proper right foot is missing.
