EKET WOODEN HELMET MASK. NIGERIA
This carved wooden mask from the Eket society of Nigeria is made from a single piece of wood and features a helmet-like form. It retains traces of white pigment and a weathered patina, with rounded ears, narrow almond-shaped eyes, and simplified features that give it an animal-like or monkey-like appearance, typical of ceremonial masks from the region. Perforations along the lower edge likely once held raffia, cloth, or fiber attachments for use during performances. Dimensions approximately 7.25 x 7 x 7 inches In Very Good condition. The mask shows surface wear, abrasions, pigment loss, age-related cracking along the edges, and the crown.
