1872 "DARTMOUTH COLLEGE" MEDICAL DIPLOMA [Signed]
1872. Original medical diploma issued by Dartmouth College to Samuel Euclid Bishop conferring the degree of Doctor of Medicine, dated October 30, 1872. This large-format diploma is entirely in Latin and features elaborate engraved calligraphy, decorative flourishes, and surviving original blue silk ribbon and embossed seal remnants — elements frequently absent on surviving Dartmouth examples from the period.
Most notably, the diploma bears a remarkable group of original signatures from important 19th-century American physicians and Dartmouth Medical School faculty, including:
Edmund Randolph Peaslee — pioneering American gynecological surgeon and major medical educator
Alpheus Benning Crosby — noted surgeon, anatomist, and medical professor
Oliver Payson Hubbard — distinguished chemist and longtime Dartmouth scientific educator
Edward Elisha Phelps — respected physician and professor of therapeutics and materia medica
Carlton P. Frost — Dartmouth Medical School faculty member and physician
In Good condition with age toning and creasing. Shelved at Rockville Room J (MW Shelf).
