These two folios are atlas volumes, consisting of facsimile maps spanning the years 1596-1907, presented during the 1971–1977 Beagle Channel Arbitration. The arbitrations were part of the larger Beagle Channel Conflict - a border dispute between Argentina and Chile regarding the ownership of the Picton, Lennox and Nueva islands at the mouth of the channel, and by extension, their associated maritime jurisdiction. The arbitration was overseen by the British Crown, eventually giving control of the islands to Chile. Argentina rejected the decision, nearly escalating to war before the the conflict was resolved via Papal mediation. These two atlas volumes present various historical maps relevant to Argentina's arguments in the initial arbitration as to why they were the rightful owners of the islands.
