19th-CENTURY CHINESE PITH PAINTING ASSEMBLAGE

c.1830-1870. Original mid-19th century Chinese export pith painting assemblage, comprising ten finely executed figural studies mounted within a single period-style frame. Each painting depicts individuals in traditional Qing dynasty attire including officials, attendants, and courtly figures. Executed on delicate pith paper (tongcao), the works display characteristic luminous coloration and precise brushwork, with particular note to the central imperial figure adorned in an elaborately detailed dragon rank badge robe, signifying high official status. In Very Good condition overall, but three of the paintings have tears to pith. Frame measures ~30.25in. x 20.75in. Shelved at Dupont.
