NOTES

Henry Shaw was a notable Victorian-era historian and illustrator, known for his illustrated facsimiles of medieval manuscripts. His work largely covered early European history and archaeology, which were subjects of much fascination at the time. Dresses and Decorations of the Middle Ages is one of Shaw's most ambitious works, illustrating the fashion and culture of noblemen, women, and the clergy during the Medieval Period.
