William Goodell was a abolitionist and temperance reformer who was involved with the American Temperance Society and helped found the New-York Anti-Slavery Society, as well as the American Anti-Slavery Society. Published a year after Goodell was selected as the Liberty Party's nominee for President of the United States in 1852, The American Slave Code was printed four times in 1853 plus an additional British edition.
