ORIGINAL 19th CENTURY "WASHINGTONIAN SOCIETY" CERTIFICATE
1846. Engraved certificate on paper with manuscript signatures, featuring ornamental typography and a central vignette of a classical allegorical figure in a landscape. The heading reads “Washingtonia Societas Literaria” with the subtitle “Collegii in Patria,” and the Latin text records the society’s purpose and membership beneath printed officer titles. Issued September 1846, the document retains its original silk ribbon attachment, suggesting a ceremonial or commemorative function. Measures 17 x 20 in. In Very Good condition with age toning, scattered staining and foxing, visible fold lines from historic storage, and minor edge wear. The silk ribbon remains attached but shows discoloration, staining, and fraying consistent with age. Shelved at Rockville Room J (MW Shelf).
