1882 COOPER MEDICAL COLLEGE (EARLY STANFORD) MEDICAL DIPLOMA [Signed]
Philadelphia: 1882. Original large-format medical diploma issued by Cooper Medical College, San Francisco, California, on November 4, 1882, awarding the degree of Doctor of Medicine to Moses C. Farrar. The diploma is printed in Latin with elaborate Victorian calligraphy and decorative engraving typical of late-19th-century academic documents. Signed by the faculty of the college including founder Levi Cooper Lane. Cooper Medical College later became the foundation of the Stanford University School of Medicine when the institution was incorporated into Stanford University in 1908.
The diploma retains its original blue ribbon with embossed paper seal beneath a protective paper guard. In Very Good condition overall with light age toning. Original ribbon present and embossed paper seal remains beneath protective paper covering. Minor handling wear consistent with age. Shelved Room J (MW Shelf).

NOTES
The society was named for Dr. William Williams Keen (1837–1932), one of the most important American surgeons of the era and a pioneering neurosurgeon associated with Jefferson Medical College. Keen served as president of the American Medical Association and was a prominent figure in American surgical education.
