NOTES
This play is inscribed by notable French and Haitian ethnographer and photographer Odette Mennesson Rigaud to Harold Courlander -- himself a prolific and much-awarded novelist, folklorist, and anthropologist specializing in African, Caribbean, and African-American cultures, including Haiti -- and his wife. The inscription, written in French, references the esteem and deep friendship Rigaud had for Harold Courlander, who is quoted at the end of the book's introduction. Courlander himself described Rigaud to Karen Richman as "the ultimate insider, the outstanding non-Haitian. She knew everybody. She was the best informed of all researchers and scholars."
