Text block shows moderate age toning and mild wear along edges, with lighter toning throughout. Marginal open tear in the fore edge of page 343. Sholem Asch was a prominent 20th century Jewish writer and recipient of the 1946 Noble Prize in Literature. He inscribed this book to Harold Courlander -- himself a prolific and much-awarded novelist, folklorist, and anthropologist specializing in African, Caribbean, and African-American cultures -- and his wife, evidencing a close relationship between the two writers.
