NOTES
Michael S. Harper was an accomplished American poet, longtime English professor at Brown University, and poet laureate of Rhode Island. This book and ephemera evidence a long and close relationship between him and fellow poet and professor Myra Sklarew. In his letters, he discusses health issues, the birth of his grandchild, details on his work and schedule, and his nomination of Sklarew to the MLA Poetry Board. These pieces, including the signed poems, articles, and other items, encompass a span of 26 years, from 1977 to 2003, and illuminate the strength and depth of the relationship between the two writers while providing a rare glimpse into the life of a much-lauded poet, father, and friend.
