c1956. An original British theatre poster announcing the 1956–57 season of The Old Vic Company, presented in association with the Arts Council of Great Britain. This poster advertises the repertory schedule running from Monday, 4 March to Saturday, 20 April, featuring productions of “Antony and Cleopatra”, “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”, and “The Merchant of Venice”. Each production lists its designer, composer, and director, including contributions by Loudon Sainthill, Tanya Moiseiwitsch, Gordon Jacob, and directors Robert Helpmann, Michael Langham, and Michael Benthall. The poster has been carefully mounted on a canvas backing by a professional, a common preservation technique that stabilizes fragile paper items, prevents further deterioration, and prepares them for long-term display.
