Bound in publisher's dark blue cloth with heavily worn lettering to spine. General shelf wear, primarily at head and tail of spine and at corners of boards. Fading to dye on top edge of textblock. Rear board loosening, though still attached, with gutter visible between rear endpaper and pastedown. Light foxing to endpapers. Age toning throughout. First Printing, with Harper's code 'C-X'.
Typed letter adhered to front pastedown reads "My dear Mrs. Laidlaw: / Under separate cover I am sending you a copy of "League or War". I want to thank you again for your useful suggestions and hope you will feel, as I do, that the book has been improved thereby. / Very sincerely yours, / Irving Fisher."
Inscription on front free endpaper reads "To Mrs. James Lee Laidlaw with the compliments and gratitude of Irving Fisher May, 1923."

NOTES
Mrs. James Lee Laidlaw, Harriet Burton Laidlaw, and her husband were prominent suffragists and supporters of the League of Nations.
Laidlaw served as a director of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA), and after the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment she pivoted to support of the League of Nations. From 1921-1922 she served as an Officer in the Women's Pro-League Council and in 1923 was a founder of League of Nations Non-Partisan Association. She served as the Chairman of the American Committee at the League of Nations Pavilion, New York World's Fair, and after WWII until her death served on the Board of directors and executive committee of the American Association for the United Nations. Additionally, she was elected to board of directors at Standard and Poor's Corporation in 1932, the first woman to do so.
