Stated "First Edition" on copyright page. “Maus: A Survivor’s Tale” is a combination of the first 6 chapters of “Maus”, a comic originally published in Itzhak Avraham ben Zeev Spiegelman, professionally known as Art Spiegelman, and his wife Françoise Mouly's magazine "Raw" chapter by chapter starting in 1980. It depicts Spiegelman’s parents Władysław and Andzia (Vladek and Anja in the comic) surviving as Polish Jews during the Holocaust, bouncing between the past and a present interview Art is conducting with his father. “Maus: A Survivor’s Tale” would be held, alongside “Watchmen” and “The Dark Knight Returns”, as one of the works to bring both the term “graphic novel” and comics as adult stories into the mainstream. It would go on to win a Pulitzer Prize, and has since been solidified as a hallmark of both comic and Holocaust literature.
