Dust jacket is wrapped in a mylar covering, price is clipped, has chipping along the head and fore edges, small open tears on the front and spine head edges and front joint, and a small closed tear on the front joint tail. Boards have mild age-toning on the head and tail edges and mild wear along the spine. Textblock has a purple "H" remainder mark on the second free end-page, light soiling on some pages, mild wear along the edges, moderate age-toning along the edges, and a stain on the head edge. NOTES
Cormac McCarthy was born July 20, 1933 in Providence, Rhode Island. After winning the Ingram-Merrill Award in 1959 and 1960 for two short stories, McCarthy would drop out of college to pursue his new passion. He would change his name from Charles to Cormac supposedly to both honor his Irish roots and to avoid comparisons to a popular ventriloquist dummy Charlie McCarthy. McCarthy would begin work on his second novel "Outer Dark" in 1962, though would endure several interruptions prior to release including a divorce in 1963, the publication of his first novel "The Orchard Keeper" in 1965, and a second marriage in 1966. Finally, after years of work, "Outer Dark" would be published in 1968 to generally positive reviews. Despite this positive critical reception, the novel performed poorly commercially, and thus had a very limited run of only 2,705 copies.
