NOTES

Louise Glück was born on April 22, 1943 in New York City to parents of Russian and Hungarian Jewish descent. Glück was taught Greek mythology and classic stories from a young age which greatly influenced her works. Glück began writing poetry in highschool, eventually taking some poetry classes and attending workshops where she more deeply developed her craft. After a tumultuous life and career, Glück finally began seeing wider success in her work in the 1990's. That success, however, came with personal pains, which she channeled into her work, producing a collection of essays in 1994 titled "Proofs & Theories: Essays on Poetry".
