NOTES
Maya Angelou was born April 4, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. Angelou would become notable not only for her moving poetry and fervent work as an activist for black people and women's rights, but also for her genre defining work as a biographer, writing out her own life like a work of literature, opening many new pathways for the genre. "On the Pluse of Morning" is perhaps one of Angelou's most known poems, being the inaugural poem read at President Bill Clinton's inauguration in 1993. This hardcover edition is one of the first printed following the ceremony.
