NOTES

Originally published in the 16th century, this translated edition of the "Ragionamenti" contains 6 dialogues and is alternately titled, "Dialogues of the Divine." Aretino was a controversial writer during the Italian Renaissance for reasons similar to de Sade: his work was considered illicit and vulgar by contemporaries.
