Paris: Chez Massé, Éditeur proprietaire, 1800. First Edition. 12mo, [4], 256, [4], 246, [1] pages. In Poor condition. Rebound in quarter marbled paper, plain brown paper spine. Shelfwear, chipping, and tearing to paper spine and boards. Edges of textblock tanned with age-toning and minor soiling to textblock. Lacking both issued frontispieces. With both half-titles. On Tome III the title page has had 'Tom III' torn out, with the small hole repaired. Small backing to fore edge of half-title and title page. Tome III A1 is missing the top half of the leaf, plain paper attached with crude ink titling to the recto only. Tome III F1 with small repair to the fore edge and crude ink lettering to the recto. Tome IV G11-12 with some damage to fore edges, G12 with slight loss to words. Significant tide-marks and water staining throughout, though most severe at extremities and along gutters.

A damaged and incomplete copy, but any editions of Sade's works published during his life are scarce. This volume is books 3 and 4 of a 4 volume collection of 11 stories and an original essay by the author. Not included in this volume is Sade's essay, "Idée sur les Romans" (in which Sade denies being the author of Justine).
