Bound in contemporary brown calf, rebacked with modern buckram and with modern leather repairs to rear board. Rubbing and chipping to both boards; hinges repaired. Evidence of bookplate removed from front pastedown. Title page with a large open cut, later repaired. Text block age-toned and foxed, with faint damp staining to lower fore edge corner of first 200 pages. Faint damp staining to upper portion of text block at spine throughout. Eight plates present and intact as issued, with an additional two-figure unrelated geometry plate, also present in the Wellcome copy. MF Consignment. Shelved in Upstairs Hall.
