1933. A 7” x 9” silver gelatin photograph of author Theodore Dreiser taken by Carl Van Vechten. Very good, with slight vertical curling along margins. Van Vechten’s embossed name appears in the lower right hand of the photograph, and his stamp on the verso. Captioned in Van Vechten’s hand on the verso: "THEODORE DREISER / November 8, 1933" with the number of the negative "xvp:37." Theodore Herman Albert Dreiser was an American novelist and journalist of the naturalist school. His novels often featured main characters who succeeded at their objectives despite a lack of a firm moral code, and literary situations that more closely resemble studies of nature than tales of choice and agency.
