Maryland. Sepia photograph (15 x 10.5 in) mounted on board, matted and framed. The artifacts wired around the photo include four iron nails, a spring-loaded sash window “catch,” and a skeleton key; the texts mounted on the mat describe the original locations of these objects and the history of Duddington Manor. The home belonged to the Carrolls of Duddington, a branch of the prominent Maryland Carroll family and relatives of the Charles Carroll who signed the Declaration of Independence. Photograph condition: Very Good. Mat shows some age-toning and soiling. Wooden frame in poor condition. Not examined out of frame. Dimensions 29 x 24 inches. Provenance: This item came from a direct descendent of Charles Carroll.

Washington, D.C. 1960. One mounted photograph, measuring 9 1/4" x 13 1/4", on which Robert A. Taft has inscribed his best wishes to the photographer, Abdon Ackad. Text to his signature is the commemorative stamp of Taft which used this very photograph. 'Sen Robert A. Taft / 4 cents stamp' is written on the rear. Set contains ten folio-sized prints, nine of the original set plus one extra plate, which is the work of the same artist but was originally sold separately. All are signed in the lower right corner by Rabinovitch, with the title of the piece in pencil on the reverse. Housed in original gray portfolio. The inside of the front cover includes the original limitation sheet as well as the description of the portfolio, pasted down as issued. The pictures vary in size from 6 x 8 to 10 x 13 inches, all on 14 x 18 sheets. Nine of the original tissue-guards are present. Contains The Katharine Cornell, Marie Ouspenskaya, Carlotta Monterey, The Girl In Black, Mrs. G. E. Calthrop, Michio Ito, The Tartar Dance of the Chauve-Souris, Nude - Dance Figure (D.H.), and Nude - Cruciform Figure (P.G.). Lacking The Sad Clown of the Chauve-Souris. Originally sold separately, this portfolio also includes the Nude - Torso (P.G.). Condition: Very Good. Some age-toning to all prints. Hickory Hill, Virginia: 1961. A photograph of Robert F. Kennedy with several of his children at Hickory Hill, their home in Virginia, signed by the photographer, Jacques Lowe. Signature in lower right corner in faded yellow ink. The title, “Hickory Hill, June 1961,” is written in the same ink in the lower left corner. Nicely matted and framed. Jacques Lowe (1930-2001) was John F. Kennedy's personal photographer both during his presidential campaign and after his election. The photograph comes from the collection of a member of the Kennedy family. Condition: Very Good. Print shows one slight crease (barely visible) at the bottom of the photo; signature and title are both badly faded. Slight scratching to frame. Not examined out of frame. 1866. First Edition. A collection of historical photographs of Venice, circa 1866. First Edition. Oblong quarto in thick, dark brown, fully embossed leather with gilt Lion of Saint Mark on front cover and gilt edges. The volume contains 40 photographs, each affixed to a thin board page with a tiny legend. The photographs in this album were taken by Carlos Naya (1816-1882) and the photography studio Anderson of Rome. Carlos Naya was a photographer and lawyer who worked with optician Carlo Ponti, and traveled extensively through Europe and North Africa. Scottish-born photographer James Anderson (1813-1877) established a successful photography business in Rome, which he passed to his son, Domenico (1854-1938) on his death. Though the legends on these photos do not specify which Anderson created them, the apparent collaboration with Naya suggests that James Anderson is most likely the artist. Both Anderson and Naya benefitted from and contributed to a dramatic boom in photography in Italy during the mid-19th century. Through their work, they offered travellers and locals alike an image of Italy as a place of cultural antiquity and stability in apparent contrast to the rapid change experienced by the rest of Europe and North America. Condition: Very Good. Boards with minimal soiling and very slight fraying on corners and upper spine. Album slightly warped upwards. Some age-toning and foxing on pages and photographs, and some offsetting. Dimensions 15.125 x 10.75 x 2.375 inches.
