Cyril Kenneth Bird (1887-1965), comic artist for Punch created the "Careless Talk Costs Lives" series of eight posters released in February 1940 in the UK. This lot is for five of those posters, one of which is signed by the artist. Each poster is 12-1/4" x 8-1/4" and is mounted to a gray mat-board in a 12x16" frame behind glass. The condition of all of these is Very Good to Fine, unless otherwise noted.

Stone lithograph, authorized by the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1998. Limited edition of 250. This is the only sanctioned homage to P.C. Fussey's extraordinary original poster. The printing is truly incredible, capturing every nuance of the busy scene created by the artist, especially the majesty of the mighty Titanic. Add to this the colossal scale of the piece at 35x50 inches and you have a poster which has a superb impact. No expense was spared in achieving a valid replica of the historic original. The colors are brilliant and the lithographic inks are incredibly lush and beautiful. This is not so much a reproduction as it is an artistic "appreciation." In the photos you can see one each of the whole poster and the artist's signature, with and without flash. The without flash is the most true to the colors, the others are so you can see the detail. This is how you can tell a stone lithograph: the solid coloring on "VIA" shows no pixilating (except from my ancient 5mp camera), dot matrix or screen effect as you would see in an offset litho. The last photo in which you can see Captain Smith on the bridge shows the very fine detail in how the ink was applied and you can also see tiny variations in the registration - these prints were made one color at a time, which makes every single one of the posters unique, and we mean that in the correct way. Examples of this poster are seldom seen: most of the few originals vanished quietly into private collections nearly a century ago. This is your chance to own an authentic Titanic poster, rendered in the original printing process at a very reasonable price. From a 1998 limited edition of 250 copies, this high quality lithographed reproduction on very heavy 150lb felt stock from the Victoria and Albert Museum is brilliantly colored and a beautiful addition to anyone's decor. At bottom it says, "P.C. Fussey/ Victoria and Albert Museum c Dieter Raoul Sauer 1998 Edition Limited to 250 pcs / All Rights Reserved." This poster was originally offered by Dieter Sauer in the 1990s and is no longer available. The size is 35x50", the condition is Very Good to Fine, it has a bump in the word TITANIC that can be seen in the T and in the C, otherwise it has some very minor bumps around the edges. a#310429790815.
