INSCRIBED by author on title page to the British diplomat Charles Richard Vaughan, who had been appointed envoy-extraordinary and minister-plenipotentiary to the United States in 1825. With an autograph letter to Vaughan signed by Ranking tipped in. The letter, approximately 60 words, is dated March 30, 1830, and begs Vaughan to accept the gift of this book. Shelved in Case #12.
