Internally quite good: clean & barely age-toned at the margins of the still sound, largely uncut/unopened pages, but the wrappers have split repeatedly along the spine leaving the signatures loose. Some soiling of the front & rear wraps & d.j. is no longer intact. Nonetheless, a very important narrative of France's period of initial colonial expansion into North Africa by a former aide to the head of the armée d'Afrique & later private secretary to Abd el Kader. Impossible to find in the 1884 1st edition and very scarce in this one in any condition.
