Horse Back Mounted Female Warrior with Three Soldiers, 1882
Japan: Yazawa Hisayoshi, 1882. A triptych woodblock print by Toyohara Kunicha (1835 - 1900), with large vertical panels depicting a scene from a kabuki play showing a female warrior astride a white horse in the center and accompanied by three soldiers. Kunichika is known for his passion for kabuki theater, and his use of bold new colors as seen in this print. In 1867, he was chosen by the Japanese government to present his work at the World Exhibition in Paris. Published by Yazawa Hisayoshi with the printer’s seal. Condition: Very good. Light wear at the edges and light crinkling on print. The print was not examined out of frame. Signed by artist, 1882.
