NOTES

Abdon Daoud Ackad Sr., 82, photographed Supreme Court justices, presidents and their families, and foreign heads of state during his nearly 60 years as a portrait photographer. He operated the Ackad Photographic Studio on Connecticut Avenue from 1948 until his retirement in 1971. Mr. Ackad's favorite clients included General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and the late Sen. Robert A. Taft (R-Ohio), whose portrait was used for a commemorative stamp. He also photographed the Supreme Court, noted members of the clergy, prominent Washington families, and U.S. presidents from Wilson to Franklin D. Roosevelt. His portrait of FDR was used for the engraving of the Roosevelt dime. In 1932, Eleanor Roosevelt called him to Hyde Park, N.Y., to take her official inaugural photograph.
