John Mercer (1704-1768) was a colonial American lawyer, land speculator, and author. Born in Dublin, he came to Virginia in 1720. He was a leading Virginia attorney and lawyer to George Washington, as well as a colonial prosecutor for the King's court of Virginia.;
This Glasgow printing of colonial Virginia laws came after the 1737 Williamsburg edition, and added a 60 page index and useful features such as lists of Virginia counties and towns, showing the years they were created by the Assembly, and a table of legistlative sessions indicating regnal years, governors, and speakers of the Assembly.;
