The engravings are partly printed on both sides. This copy is lacking the biographical sketch for Claudius (1 leaf), and seven pages of engravings (on four leaves) of coins and medals for Domitianus. Early calf, quite worn, and suffering from red rot. The joints are cracked and the upper portion of the spine is missing. The engraved title is soiled and creased, strengthened on the verso at the outer edge, and mounted on a stub. A few additional leaves are mounted on stubs, and a few have been strengthened at the outer edge. Light to moderate foxing and browning, dampstaining to the lower portion of the text block, minor worming to the lower blank margin of about ten leaves. This work deals with the portraits and lives of the first twelve Roman emperors and all of the reverses of their coins and medals that the authors had found, arranged by the metal from which they were struck: gold, silver, or bronze. The Latin editions contain substantial alterations and additions to the 1548 Italian edition, including ten additional pages of engravings of coins and medals, Antonio Zantani's addresses to the reader, and an index. Although "Libri primi" appears on the titles, no second book was published. This edition does not have the dedication to Pope Julius III by Eneo Vico present in the 1553 edition. Shelved in Case #4.
