Washington DC: US Congress, 1842. 1st. 69pp, 6 x 9" Light foxing typical for a document of this age. Stain on bottom right corner going through book, does not affect text. Report of the Select Committee on the "amount and character of the expenditures which have been made by the Government in satisfaction of bounty land claims allowed by the state of Virginia." The claims were for land grants made by Virginia to members of the militia who had served in the revolutionary war. These lands were located in what is now the states of Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. When Virginia ceded these lands, as the Northwest Territory, to the United States, they wanted these claims to be honored.
