Rebound, with cloth covering boards and spine preserved. Majority of rear pastedown preserved and pasted to new front pastedown and majority of front pastedown preserved and pasted to new rear pastedown. Pencil note to front pastedown stating that the binding was done in 1961 and that the pastedowns are reversed, with matching note to rear pastedown. Binding with some general rubbing and shelfwear, with less occurring where new material exists. '1.00' sticker to front free endpaper. Gift inscription dated 1901 to recto of publisher's advertisements. Plate facing page 14 and pages 15/16 with tattering along fore edge. 15/16 detached but present. Some pages and plates with non-archival tape repair or reinforcement.
With all appropriate second state points, including corrections on page [2], 14, 81, and [227]. Binding state C, with serifed typed stamped in red to the tail of the spine with the "C" encircling the "o".
With 23 of the 24 inserted plates (including title page), lacking plate facing page 92.
