Alain Locke's copy, with his ownership signature to the front free end paper, dated 1929 and offset onto front pastedown, his bookplate (by Harlem Renaissance painter Aaron Douglas of an art deco depiction of an African woman’s face set in front of a sunburst) affixed to the front pastedown, and Howard University Libraries presentation bookplate to the front free end paper. Tipped-in note on the second rear endpaper “For Alain Locke - affectionately, A. Rud.......”.
