NOTES
The "Edition de Luxe” of a landmark production in the history of American chromolithography. Helmed by American Egyptologist Samuel Binion, this stunning collection of chromolithographic plates of Egyptian architecture, art and antiquities drew from four major volumes of Egyptian travel and antiquities. These include: David Roberts' Egypt and the Holy Land; Prisse d'Avennes' Oriental Album' Lepsius' Denkmäler aus Ägypten und Äthiopen; and, Description de l'Égypte (commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte).
Ancient Egypt or Mizraïm was originally issued in twelve parts (here bound together in two volumes), each plate accompanied by its own lithographic title and text page. (Reference: Blackmer 143).
