RARE QUEEN VICTORIA DIAMOND JUBILEE 16MM FILM | AFTERNOON TEA IN THE GARDEN

Biograph Company, 1897. One of a series of films taken by the Biograph Company (W.K.L. Dickson) during the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897, this film is believed to be a longer version (~35s) of "Afternoon Tea in the Garden at Clarence House." Footage features members of the Saxe Coburg branch of the family enjoying a meal (and/or tea) in the garden as they gathered to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria's accession, including Alfred the Duke of Edinburgh, the Grand Duke and Duchess of Hesse (and their little daughter Elizabeth), and King George V. This is a 35-second 16mm film (most likely generated from an original 35mm/63mm film) with colorful, yet historically inaccurate, commentary (I believe the narrator misidentifies the individuals present). The image presented in the listing is derived from from an online archive streaming a digital version of this film. EK Consignment. Shelved Rockville "Room J"
