Nine Photographs Of Chicago 8 Trial Protest

Chicago: Second City Newspaper, 1969. A collection of nine original photographs of the protests which took place at the Grant Park Bandshell on the first day of the trial of the Chicago 8 (September 24, 1969). Taken by a staff photographer for the underground newspaper Second City. The photographs depict: the Black Panther Party of Illinois Deputy Chairman Fred Hampton and his entourage urging people to free Bobby Seale (four photographs); Abbie Hoffman, surrounded by photographers and addressing the crowds (three photographs); the somewhat integrated (though mostly African American) seated crowd (one photograph); and a group of marchers holding a “Support Black Liberation” banner (one photograph). Four of the photographs were published by Second City, notably, the striking portrait of Fred Hampton used on the cover of Vol. 2, no. 3. Two 8” x 10” photographs; seven 5” x 7” photographs. Fine condition; all very slightly age-toned with very slight bumping to corners of prints. CX Consignment. Shelved case 0.
