Chandler's "The Big Sleep" was originally published in 1939 by Alfred A. Knopf. The Forum Motion Picture Edition was released in June 1946 as a tie-in to the August release of Howard Hawks' classic film adaptation starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.;
