Maraini joined Giuseppe Tucci on two of his trips to Tibet, in 1937 and 1948. He also published 'Lontano Tibet' or 'Chibetto', with Italian text and parallel Japanese translation, with 96 leaves of plates, in Toyko in 1942.;
