The 19th Century Postage Stamps of the United States [Two Volumes]

New York, NY: H.L. Lindquist, 1947. First. For both volumes unless otherwise noted: Quarto; VG- hardcovers; Green cloth spine with gold text; Boards strong, clean, with shelfwear and edgewear, rubbing and light fraying at corners and both ends of spine, boards edgeworn, gilt fading on cover and along the spine - more prevalent for Vol. 1 than Vol. 2, Vol. 1 - small indentation along fore edge; Textblock clean, unidentifiable acrid odor, all edges show signs of wear, Vol. 1 age-toned, .5" closed tear at top of gutter between front pastedown and front free-end paper, evidence of water damage at fore edge tail corner for first 40 pages of text, dedication page has 3" curved closed tear beginning at tail edge, 3" water or some other liquid damage along fore edge from page 287 through end of text, tail corner water damage from page 317 through end of text, Vol. 2 front board feels a tad loose, spine makes a crackling noise when book is opened, spine cracked in several places, binding exposed between pages 234-235, exposed biding appears "rusty," possibility that types of paper stock were used to produce the two volumes - would explain color tonal differences; pp Vol. 1 - 319, Vol. 2 - 305.
